Plugins to drive revenue to your Wordpress website

Running content sites and simply adding more and more content to drive traffic your own products and services will mean you are leaving money on the table – even with a 30% conversion rate, you are missing out on the possible monetisation of 70% of your website visitors.

With a slight mindset adjustment you could be generating much more revenue from your website.   Here is a 3 step process to add multiple revenue options to your site fast.  While not an exhaustive list of options, this is a great way to get started

1. Use Google Analytics on your site via the Monster Insights Plugin

Google Analytics

Google is now on version 4 of its Analytics properties, formerly known as “App+Web”. Essentially, Google analytics gives you access to all the numbers under the hood of your site. It lets you evaluate how well your marketing strategies are working and which products or posts are getting the most attention from your visitors.

The data from Analytics – and it provides a lot – gets turned into useful information via a comprehensive reports system. You can pull out where visitors came from, if they clicked on an ad to bring them to your site, how they behave once there and whether they are likely to convert to a customer. That barely scratches the surface of how in-depth you can go to really dig into how your strategies are performing.

This data is immensely useful in-house, as Analytics makes sharing the output with team members easy via a variety of graphs and charts. In addition, with the stats for your site you can put together a package to send to brands you want to work with, proving your potential value to them.

Google Analytics puts a massive amount of data at your fingertips but unless you were familiar with website development it wasn’t easy for the layman to unlock its full potential MonsterInsights makes managing your Google Analytics data from within your WordPress site user friendly and efficient. It will add Analytics to your WP dashboard, so you can keep an eye on everything in one place.

Once set up and linked with your Analytics account, which can take as little as 5 minutes, MonsterInsights lets you pull together all the salient reports you need to monitor and analyse your site’s performance in a way that makes sense to you.

Different sites have different metrics – a blogger looking for greater reach and traffic and a commercial sales page are likely to have varying priorities, for example. One might want to know what topics garner the most interest and longest stays on the site, while customer value, popular products and conversion potential are more relevant to a shop site.

Beyond Google Analytics, MonsterInsights boasts a host of integrations with other plugins and apps so you can fold your favourite tools into your reporting pages. Notable highlights are WooCommerce for e-commerce tracking, Formidable Forms to show you how well your forms are converting visitors to customers and FaceBook Instant Articles. This last is significant because it simply doesn’t talk to Google Analytics but getting at it via MonsterInsights means your audience breakdown is to hand.

2. Then use Thirsty Affiliates to backfill affiliate links into your content for immediate potential sales

Find Affiliate Programmes to join  – use Google to find relevant programmes to join.  Check out the products and services you and your industry use, do they have affiliate programmes – ask them.

Don’t join a bunch of programmes that don’t relate to your audience.

The Thirsty Affiliates WordPress plugin makes it easy to place affiliate links onto your site and helps protect your revenue generation from those who would hijack it and profit from your hard work. It also facilitates your compliance with local disclosure regulations when you are placing adverts in your content.

Transparency and professionalism are key when building trust in a community and in looking appealing to advertisers. MonsterInsights gives you access to all the data and reports you need to package up and present to a potential advertising partner while Thirsty Affiliates gives you control over managing your affiliate links.

The plugin offers automatic checks for error 404 – ie it makes sure that the link is still live. If you are promoting short term offers from a partner this function is invaluable, as dead links aren’t a good look for advertiser or user. It will shorten links using either or, but Thirsty Affiliates also uses the Amazon API; Amazon

3. Add the Advanced Ads Plugin to offer direct monthly advertising options as well as including Affiliate banners and Google Adsense

Add in potential monthly ad spaces on your website to sell ads space.  The beauty is companies can use the system to pay upfront using their credit card and keeps your admin overhead down.  Advanced ads is the best plugin on the market for this as it allows you to sell space as well as use Adsense to fill spots too.  It provides you with another way to generate revenue from your website.

Advanced Ads

This plugin is a great way to create a self service ad platform for advertisers.

What does this mean?

It means an advertiser can simply buy advertising space from you directly and make payment for it ahead of time.  All without the need for you to be involved, unless you want to.  You can set up a huge number of different ad options and allow advertisers to buy slots and spots as you want.  I would suggest  keeping it simple and not have too many options.  You want the site to continue to be functional and readable.   This can be a great way to get direct brands on board that don’t have an affiliate opton.

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is the Google platform’s way of offering publishers (site owners) the ability to earn revenue from their Google Ads network.    This can be a great way to backfill and monetise content quickly.  You can simply apply and when approved embed the code they give you.  You can use the Advanced Ads plugins to add the content to relevant parts of your site.  The downside to this is there are no indications of what a click will generate you or how much income this will generate for you.

It can be a great easy to build up revenue but doesn’t give you stability.  Also it is complicated to remove certain advertisers from your site.  But if this isn’t an issue for you, it could be a great hands free option to drive revenue.

These 3 steps will help monetise any website if you take the time to get the tools in place and the right affiliate offers and advertisers on board.
